our pups will go bananas for these Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Dog Treats. With only 4 ingredients, these banana dog treats are super simple to make and will make your dogs feel like the special fur babies they are.
Smash the bananas in a large mixing bowl using a potato masher. Add egg, peanut butter, and cinnamon to the mashed bananas and beat until smooth.
Fold in the oat flour, holding back 1 - 2 tablespoons if you’re using the finer store bought flour. Knead until a dough forms. The dough texture should be similar to a dry biscuit dough and easy to handle. If it is too wet, sprinkle in some more flour, 1 tablespoon at a time.
Sprinkle extra oat flour on the counter or a large cutting board, roll the dough out to about ¼” thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Reroll the scraps and continue cutting into shapes.
Place cookies on a baking sheet between ½” to 1” apart. Bake for 20 minutes. Rotate pan, flip cookies, reduce oven temperature to 325°F and bake for another 20 minutes.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
Notes
Use store bought oat flour or grind your own flour from rolled oats if you have a food processor. Use 9 - 10 oz of rolled oats to get over 2 cups of oat flour, or just measure 2 heaping cups of rolled oats for grinding.
All-purpose flour, whole wheat flour and gluten free flour will also work for this recipe. But note that treats made with wheat flour will be harder and may be difficult for older little dogs to eat.
Cut the treats into shapes with cookie cutters or simply slice them into squares and other geometric shapes with your knife.
Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. Refrigerate for up to 2 months. Or freeze for up to 8 months.
